According to a recent report by Caixin Global, Sohu.com, one of the oldest internet companies in China, has once again become profitable in the first quarter of 2021. Most of these profits can be attributed to large growth in Sohu’s online gaming community.
According to an earnings report, Sohu logged a non-GAAP net profit of $37 million in the first quarter of 2021. This is a massive increase compared to the net loss of $8 million the organization suffered in Q1 of 2021.
The company also announced that total revenue grew by 24% year-over-year to $222 million. 80% of that money came from the company’s online gaming sector ($176 million).
“The company mainly attributed the growth in online gaming revenue to Tian Long Ba Bu (TLBB) Vintage, a multiplayer online role-playing game launched in the fourth quarter of 2020,” writes Ding Yi of Caixin Global.
