Popular game creation platform Roblox recently became the subject of scrutiny in the Apple-Epic Games lawsuit. During the second week of the trial, the question was posed whether Roblox was a game or “an experience.” In the end, Apple chose to classify the platform as an experience.
It now appears that Roblox agrees with this assessment by the tech giant. The organization has now replaced the “Games” tab with a “Discover” tab on the website. Now, individuals can create and develop “experiences” using the platform.
“The term ‘experiences’ is consistent with how we’ve evolved our terminology to reflect our realization of the metaverse,” a spokesperson told The Verge. “Roblox is an online community where people do things together in virtual worlds, and over the years, we began referring to these worlds as experiences, as they better represent the wide range of 3D immersive places – from obbys to virtual concerts – that people can enjoy together with their friends.”
Back in March Roblox began trading shares of stock in the company. As of 12:00 PM EST on May 25th, 2021, the organization has a market cap of $48.99 billion.
