Shaq Is The Latest Celebrity To Make His Way Into The World Of Gaming

Sports legend Shaquille O’Neal is the latest superstar to enter the world of esports. The basketball Hall of Famer recently sat down for an interview with The Washington Post where he explained why he decided to invest in gaming.

“I was in California, I was spending time with the kids and they said, ‘Dad, there’s an event at the Staples Center [League of Legends Season 3 World Championship]. We want you to take us,'” O’Neal said. “So then, when I get there, it feels like a basketball game. It’s 30,000 little kids screaming. And then watching these two kids play on screen, I asked myself, like, what is this? And [my kids] said this is the future, Dad. Esports. When I saw it was 30,000 kids involved with this esports thing, I just knew I had to get involved.”

Earlier this year, The General Insurance and NRG Esports’ Rocket League team announced the formation of a new partnership. As part of the deal, NRG Esports’ Rocket League team was renamed The General NRG.

Shaquille O’Neal helped create the partnership. The 15-time NBA All-Star is a part-owner of NRG Esports and also serves as the brand ambassador/spokesperson for The General Insurance.
