Nominees Announced For SXSW Gaming Awards

The nominees for the South by Southwest Gaming Awards were unveiled on February 1st. 2022’s categories include SXSW Game of the Year, Indie Game of the Year, VR Game of the Year, and more.

“In a year where the convergence of the gaming and entertainment industry continues to evolve at a rapid pace, SXSW is proud to showcase the most creative and innovative titles,” said Hugh Forrest, chief programming officer for SXSW. “For a second year, SXSW is excited to bring the awards digitally to a global audience with our new partners Peach Maria Productions.”

Five titles are being considered for the Game of The Year. They are Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, It Takes Two, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and Resident Evil Village.

Of these five games, three of them received nominations for other categories outside of the game of the year award. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was nominated for Excellence in Game Design as well as Excellence in Technical Achievement. Final Fantasy XIV is being considered for Excellence in Original Score and Excellence in Narrative. And, unsurprisingly, It Takes Two was nominated for the Excellence in Multiplayer award.

Voting for all categories is now open to the public. The South by Southwest Gaming Awards is scheduled to take place on March 12th.
