Over the past two years, Sony has been developing artificial intelligence technology that trained a computer system to play Gran Turismo Sport, an incredibly popular racing video game. In a recent announcement, Sony revealed that this AI, which is named GT Sophy, defeated the top human Gran Turismo racers.
“Our goal is to develop AIs that make games more fun for all levels of players,” said Peter Wurman, Sony’s AI Director. “We are looking forward to working with Polyphony to figure out the best ways to incorporate this technology into Gran Turismo in the future.”
GT Sophy is the latest AI experiment to defeat humans in a video game setting. Artificial Intelligence has allowed computers to beat people in games like Starcraft, chess, and several classic Atari games.
The Profit‘s Take:
Here’s a question: why is this a headline? Nobody is surprised by this. A human driver can never be as perfect as AI.
