On May 3rd, Spotify made history by becoming the first music streaming brand to have an official presence in the hit children’s gaming platform Roblox. This comes after the organization launched Spotify Island, a place in the Roblox metaverse where musicians and fans can come together, interact with one another, unlock content, participate in quests, and buy merchandise.
“Spotify is the first music-streaming brand to have a presence on Roblox, a virtual universe where users can create and play games and share experiences with friends,” reads an official announcement from the company. “Through this interactive world, we’re creating a place where fans can link up and create new sounds together, hang out in digital spaces, and gain access to exclusive virtual merch. Spotify Island is an audio oasis that has it all.”
Spotify Island will consist of a mainland destination that is surrounded by a number of themed islands. The color theme of these islands will be green and black with shades of orange and purple mixed in, representing the Spotify brand.
When visiting the island, users will have the ability to access a musical play box in the top right corner of the virtual world. This music box will feature a soundtrack powered by one of Spotify’s audio creation tools known as Soundtrap. This will allow gamers to play, pause, or even skip songs.
The island will feature an in-game store outfitted with exclusive Spotify products and special artist merchandise. Interested users can also collect four free items by completing missions around the island. There will even be collectible hearts spread throughout the island that unlock hidden Easter eggs when assembled together.
