Sony netted $18.2 billion in revenue for the previous fiscal year, which put it behind only Tencent ($32.2 billion) in the category of the world’s biggest gaming money makers. However, with Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard soon to be finalized, will Sony lose its second place position next fiscal term?
Microsoft’s Xbox division (ranked fourth) pulled in $12.9 billion, with Activision-Blizzard making $8.1 billion. Between the two companies, their combined $21 billion would have been enough to bump Sony down to third place this year, and experts predict, should hold up to do so next year.
Meanwhile, Apple rounded out the top three, netting $15.3 billion, while Nintendo came in at eight, registering $8.1 billion.
