Valve Wins Emmy For The International 10

Esports aren’t just taking the video game world by storm, they’re also gaining a lot of attention in the traditional sports space too. In fact, Valve recently won a Sports Emmy for the effort that went into the most recent edition of the world-famous Dota 2 tournament known as The International.

On May 24th, Valve received the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Esports Championship Coverage thanks to the production job that went into putting on The International 10 which took place in October of 2021. The award specifically honored coverage that went into The International 10 finals matchup between Team Spirit and PSG.LGD.

This series garnered over 2.7 million viewers, setting a new record for the world-renowned tournament. This represented a growth rate of 39% percent from The International 9.

The International 10 beat out four other events from the past year to win this award. Other nominees included the League of Legends 2021 World Championship final between Damwon and Edward Gaming, the 2021 Overwatch League Grand Finals between the Shanghai Dragons and the Atlanta Reign, the Ultimate Madden Bowl Finale, and the WePlay Animajor finals which had Evil Geniuses facing off against PSG.LGD.

This is a pretty impressive accomplishment for Valve since this was the only esports-related category featured during the 2022 sports Emmys award show. This just serves as further proof that The International is the most famous video game tournament in the world.
