Here Are The Top Games In The U.S. During Q1 2022

We now know what the most played games were in the United States. The NPD Group recently unveiled its list of the ten most played video games in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2022, a three-month period that ran from January 1st to March 31st.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this list is that half of the games that cracked the top ten didn’t even come out this decade! We don’t have an exact order, but we can tell you the games that made up the top ten were Minecraft, NBA 2K22, GTA V, Call of Duty: Vanguard, The Sims 4, Madden 22, Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Among Us, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It is worth noting that this list did not include mobile games, which have actually outperformed console and PC games as of late.

Now, we know what you’re probably asking, where’s Elden Ring? Well, Elden Ring ended up being the 20th-ranked game on the list, placing lower than other older titles like World of Warcraft, Skyrim, and Rocket League.

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. He explained that evergreen and live service games are huge gravity wells when it comes to player attention. As a result, he said, “new games, big and small, face a daunting challenge trying to break through.”

The Profit‘s Take:

Elden Ring was all anybody was talking about when it first came out. But, I think it’s possible we live in an echo chamber where what we see and hear isn’t always reality. Then again, maybe hardcore single-player games don’t have mass appeal.
