NASA has launched Roman Space Observer, a new, yet retro-styled 8-bit game which can be played from their website. The game is free-to-play and runs directly in any Internet browser, so now downloads or installations are necessary to play.
“With the ever-revolving loop of popular trends, retro 8-bit style games have made a big comeback in the gaming industry,” reads the game description on the website. “Younger generations are now loving games that older generations still enjoy. This game is intended to entertain players across a wide variety of interests and skillsets, all while spreading the word of the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope and the fantastic science it will uncover. Our goal for this game is to inform and inspire players about the amazing cosmic objects in our universe and what Roman may be able to see in a fun and engaging way.”
The goal of the game is to find as many space objects as possible using Roman detectors. You can find black holes, dark matter, or aim for more common objects like galaxies or exoplanets.
To play the game, all you have to do is click this link, and enjoy!
