An NFT gaming console will be coming our way soon. The web3 company Polium recently announced plans to release the world’s first web3, NFT-focused video game console. Called The Polium One, this device will be launched during the third quarter of 2024.
Polium has already been hyping up this device, saying it will be “the world’s first multi-chain gaming console.” It will also be able to run games built on different blockchains.
At this time, the console can only be pre-ordered by individuals that buy a Polium Pass. This is an NFT that will be available in limited supply on the Ethereum network. The console’s controller will be outfitted with a fingerprint scanner for security purposes as well as a wallet button to give players easy access to the console’s multi-chain wallet.
Despite this exciting news, the announcement has already been met with a lot of skepticism and criticism from the global gaming community. As Video Games Chronicle puts it, most gamers are “not yet convinced” of the merits of blockchain gaming. In fact, some members of the global gaming community straight-up believe blockchain gaming is a scam. Users have also noticed that the console’s logo looks an awful lot like an upside-down GameCube logo.
At this time, no games have been confirmed for the console, but Polium is saying that an announcement should be expected soon since the company is currently in talks with developers. Either way, it sounds like the world of gaming is going to change in two years.
