A Wordle board game will be coming our way soon. On July 14th, Hasbro announced it was joining forces with The New York Times to launch a Wordle board game called Wordle: The Party Game. This comes several months after The New York Times purchased the mobile game from creator Josh Wardle back in late January.
For those of you that have been able to avoid giving in to the trend, congratulations. But, let’s also explain how Wordle works.
In this web-based puzzle game, users are tasked with guessing a new five-letter word on a daily basis in six tries or less. However, unlike the original wordle game, the board game turns the exercise into a group activity. One player is tasked with thinking of a five-letter word. Then, after that, other players try to guess what that word is. Once everybody has made their guesses, the person that came up with the word will slide translucent yellow and green tiles over the correctly-guessed letters. And, as The Verge puts it, users will likely make their guesses on a dry-erase board so that you can just wipe away your answers once a round ends.
Wordle: The Party Game will be available in North America this October. However, if you just can’t wait until then, you can pre-order the game now for just $19.99.
While the game’s website does say shipping will begin on October 1st, that’s a cautious approximate date that could be “subject to change” as The Verge puts it. If you want to learn more about the board game, just visit wordlethepartygame.com.
