Nintendo Switch Continues To Dominate The Market

Despite the Switch continuing to find success, things have taken a somewhat downward turn at Nintendo. According to a recently released earnings report, the Nintendo Switch has sold 111 million units worldwide as of June 30th, 2022.

This means that the Switch remains Nintendo’s third best-selling console of all time, trailing only the Game Boy, which sold over 118 million units over its lifetime, and the Nintendo DS, which was able to sell a whopping one 154 million units.

Over 3.4 million Switches and over 41 million units of Switch software were sold by Nintendo during the three-month period that recently concluded on June 30th. It’s also worth noting that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to be the console’s best-selling game with over 46.8 million units sold worldwide.

Despite the growth of the Nintendo Switch, the world-famous gaming giant has actually had a pretty rough quarter: Hardware sales were down 22.9% year over year. Software sales also fell by 8.6%. While net profits for the company were up, net sales were down by 4.7%.

Regardless of the financial ups and downs the company has been going through, Nintendo still intends to stay the course with the Switch. In the earnings report, the organization said it will  “continue to convey the appeal of all three hardware models in order to maintain sales momentum and expand the install base.”
