On August 11th, Jefferson Community College officially opened the doors on the school’s brand new esports arena. This comes a little more than seven months after the school announced plans to launch an esports program.
The venue has already been outfitted with plenty of high-tech gadgets. This includes individual gaming stations, gaming chairs, high-powered computers, and three 70-inch monitors.
“It’s been about two years in the making,” said Jefferson Community College’s Administrator in Charge Dr. Daniel Dupee. “Our facilities department, our IT department, our athletics department really put together a great program.”
The school’s esports team will begin practicing during the Fall semester. The team’s first NJCAA-sponsored (National Junior College Athletic Association) competition is scheduled to take place in early June of next year.
Based in Watertown, NY, JCC is a public community college that was founded in November of 1961. As of the Fall 2020 semester, there were over 2,600 students enrolled at the school.
